Bird Bath Views

The robin sometimes visits our bird baths.

In one of my bird baths, I have a small solar fountain that lights up at night. It has a battery that charges during the day.

 Geese like drinking from our bird baths. I know I showed them doing this before. We had a bird bath near the front door, seen below, which we moved out into the yard because the geese were making a mess on the concrete. They have no manners!

"This Eighteenth Century Mill was operated by George Neavil. It was still in use in 1932, and was restored in 1962 by the Warrenton Antiquarian Society as a memorial to the early settlers of Fauquier County."

I came across this place by accident last year. I took a back road because Interstate 66 was blocked by a traffic incident. This is somewhere near Catlett, VA. It is said to have been built in 1769.

Wardensville is just across the mountain in West Virginia. I was delighted to see this bright mural at the softball field. On the side of the building we see that it was Joyfully Made by Youthwork Wonders.

Solomon's Lutheran Church began in 1793. I did not find much about it except the old German records of both this church and the Old Pine Church were bound together in one volume. 

Many German immigrants settled in the Shenandoah Valley, bringing their religions with them.

Summertime Critters

I've been watching for butterflies but I've only found a few. I didn't get close to this one in a meadow near Cedar Creek. (You may have to look closely to see it on the right side of the picture.)

The pretty duck was strolling in my back yard. 

When I find flowers to photograph, I look for pollinators. They can't all be butterflies.

An Algae Warning and Other Signs

July was hot and dry. Our rivers are low. The Shenandoah is River is flowing slowly and algae is growing in it. 

Some algae is harmless but some varieties are toxic. There are reports of dogs getting very sick from playing in the river, and the state health department is warning people to stay away from algae mats.

Below is a shot of me standing in front of the LOVE sign at Seven Bends State Park. A stand has been installed there to hold your cell phone so you can take a picture for the Chronolog slide show. 

SBS-102 refers to Seven Bends State Park, Location #2.  Pictures taken here can be emailed to Chronolog to be part of a slide show showing the seasons change at this location. I did so but it was a regular landscape, not the selfie.

Variations on a Sticky Theme

The City Daily Photo Theme for August 1st is Sticky.

This is not a topic that I usually photograph. I decided to set up some shots of peanut butter. I used my iPhone, spread the screen to zoom in, and used the timer to make it easier to hold the spoon and the phone at the same time.
