It's International Vulture Awareness Day.
I like watching vultures fly. I admit that they look a bit creepy with that crooked beak. They play an important role in the ecosystem, and they are a protected species in my state.
The black vulture pictures are from late winter. Today I spotted some ducks in the late-day sun and took a picture.
Also showing: a grasshopper on a cattail plant.

Great close-up of the Vulture!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day!
no. I never heard of IVAD! Maybe because we don´t have them :) But I have seen some omn my travels and find them quite fascinating. :)
ReplyDeleteVultures aren't the prettiest of birds, but they are wonderful fliers. Your photo shows a great deal of character, too ;)
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI think the vultures are cool looking birds, great shot of the Black Vulture. I enjoy watching the vultures in flight. The ducks are cute. Neat capture of the grasshopper. Thanks so much for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy day and a great new week! PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Nice post and cool photos! Thank you very much)
ReplyDeleteIt's great that we set aside a day to celebrate vultures, a vital part of the ecosystem. If you want to see the impact of eliminating vultures, India and its use of diclofenac to treat cattle will show you the grim results.
ReplyDeleteYou make an important point Linda. Vultures do play an important part in any ecosystem and it is important we all protect them as much as we can.
ReplyDelete...vultures are an ugly and necessary creature.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly look a bit weird, I'm glad someone said "Let's appreciate them." Very necessary. Here's to the garbage cleaner-uppers!
ReplyDeleteI like watching vultures too. The black ones are "less ugly"thanthe turkey in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and linking in this weekend.
The vulture close up is formidable.
ReplyDeleteI do like the black and white photograph of the vulture.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Great photos of these creatures that provide a necessary service. We have a lot of Turkey Vultures here. The Black Vultures are more troublesome as they attack newborn calves.
ReplyDeleteVery nice shots!
ReplyDeleteYou would probably be shocked by how normal things have been where I live. Zero lockdowns and no covid restrictions. However, a few places voluntarily shutdown in March or April 2020 and some people wear masks.
I feel bad that I missed National vulture Day! Must note that on my calendar for next year ))). You've gotta' give them credit for doing their job well -- they really are essential workers in the natural world. (Whenever we see them circling over, one of us always says some version of ' we better move before they land..."
ReplyDeleteGreat close-up of the Vulture!
