Monday Mural: Inside the post office is a mural called "Lewis Ramey's Blacksmith Shop." This was painted by Sheffield Kagy, commissioned by the U.S. Treasury Section of Fine Arts. It's in very good condition for one that is 80 years old.
A stone in the wall is inscribed to tell us the post office was built in 1938. The architect was Louis A. Simon.
The Post Office is on South Broad Street.
Blue Monday: A short distance west of Luray, I saw a nice mountain scene and pulled into a parking lot to take a picture. A little rain was coming in over the Massanutten Range.
The parking lot I found myself in belongs to an interesting-looking farm market. A sign indicated there were goats behind one of the buildings so of course I parked the car and went to see. Nice place!
...Linda, you found a beauty here!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI love the mural, it is beautiful. The farm market is nice, love the cute critters. Pretty view of the mountain. Take care, enjoy your day!
Nice historical mural, thanks for contributing Linda. The farm animals were a surprising find. What a pity people don't think about the environment when they just discard things.
ReplyDeleteGostei do mural no interior dos correios.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

I'm really enjoying your photos of post offices. That mural is beautiful. Also, love the mountain scene. And yes, it is very sad that people don't pick up after themselves. So frustrating. Hope you are having a great week so far!
ReplyDeleteDawno mnie nie było u Ciebie. Kolejne ciekawostki z dalekiego świata! Gdyby tylko człowiek miał więcej czasu! Pocieszne zwierzaki!
ReplyDeleteLoved the mountains with rain...and a pig, goats and a pony too! The art is lovely and I'm so glad it's still in good shape.
ReplyDeleteQue lugar lindo, amo as montanhas, meu pai criava cabras, bons tempos de infância! bj
ReplyDeleteBeautiful mural--the colors are very vibrant. I love Shenandoah Valley--we visited many times, and also Luray Caverns twice. I do wish people would not litter. There seems to be such carelessness for others these days.
ReplyDeleteNice reminder of the role of the post office in our lives. Suddenly it is expected to be a model of the "free enterprise economy" when actually it is part of the DNA of Americans.
ReplyDeleteI like that mural.
ReplyDeleteThat mural is very nice.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
This is an amazing mural, Linda. I've seen a few of those post office murals and this is stunning. So is that old PO.
ReplyDeleteThose farm animals are a fun surprise. Somehow, the littering doesn't surprise me. It's because of our disposable society, I fear.
You are a true blogger, with a camera and curiousity always looking for something.
ReplyDeleteNice post I love
ReplyDeleteMay the USPS see/have better days ahead! Long may the Post Office thrive!
