Opequon Presbyterian Church is in Kernstown, a historic town that has been absorbed into Winchester. The original church, which burned in 1873, is mentioned in Civil War accounts of the Battle of Kernstown. (See my January 2009 post.)
A cute blessing box has been added in front of the church. A shelf for give-away books is inside with a larger area for free food.
On the back of the stone church is a sprawling addition.

At the other end of the battlefield is Rose Hill Park, which has a walking trail that takes you past battlefield sites and a farm.
Since I'm linking to the Barn Collective today, let me show you one more barn. This is near Boyce and I've wanted to photograph it for some time but it's on a busy road. Last week I saw "For Sale" sign at a house being built nearby so I pulled off at the driveway and got a picture.
Beautiful, especially that church.
ReplyDelete...that old stone church sure has grown over the years. Nancy, you have a great grouping of barns, of course I like the red one. Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteLove that design.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see a church that is expanding. Speaks of people's dedication. Lovely barns!
ReplyDeleteThat church is a beauty. Nice to see the blessing box. Many of our churches have these but not as cute as this one.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful church. I like the blessing box, one of our churches has one too.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see all your photographs.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a beautiful looking church, and the barn in your last photograph is such a gorgeous colour.
All the best Jan
We have a number mini libraries and they are fun to share in
ReplyDeleteNice church and I like the red barn.
ReplyDeleteThe church sounds like it is a good member of the community, with its library and free food. I like to see that. Lovely barn! The farm road I drive every week to and from a class has great photo ops and absolutely no place to pull over. So frustrating.
