The Opequon Presbyterian Church is next to Kernstown Battlefield just south of Winchester. I've written about it before.
There's an old cemetery next to the church and a much smaller one behind it. As you can see, this tiny plot is close to a housing development. The houses are designed for people over the age of 55.

Several of the markers are for members of the Cruickshank family. This one tells us that Elizabeth Cruickshank was born in Scotland in 1845.From the church we can see the old farm that lies on the Kernstown Battlefield, site of two Civil War battles.

I always enjoy looking around these old places. Interesting history. I was also interested that the development was so close to the gravesite. Lovely old barn.

What a lovely and quaint church with great scenery around it. I like to wander in old graveyards and read the headstones.

ReplyDeleteOh, how I would love to be living in a house built for folk OVER 55. Surely 77 would do just fine in one of them. The setting for that barn is so nice. Lots of land that is going to be worked before too much longer.
