Colors are Changing a Little Early

It's a week earlier than usual but the trees are already showing their autumn colors. On Wednesday we drove the northern section of Skyline Drive and saw a little fall color, as you can see. Then yesterday and today we saw golden trees in the lowlands, plus I can see fall foliage on Massanutten Mountain from our window.

While on Skyline Drive, we also saw several deer and even a bear! Unfortunately he lumbered off into the woods by the time the car stopped so we didn't get a picture. A few miles later we stopped and got out at Beahm's Gap Overlook. There's a very short scenic trail there but Frank did not want to hike it because Flash was with us and might not react prudently if we were to cross paths with a bear!

  1. Pretty scenery. Too bad you couldn't get a picture of the bear, but it's neat that you got to see it.

  2. It's certainly time for a walk in the woods to take it all in.

  3. Always fun to have a bear crossing. I saw a coyote run across the road this week which was rather unusual.

  5. Our maples are turning, but they seem to be losing their leaves at a faster rate with all our windy storms. - Margy

  9. Our trees have been stressed all year. First, we had rain all spring and into early summer... then a dry spell. Poor trees are suffering.

  10. A bear is not something I want to cross paths with, either! Pretty colors!
