After we hiked at Elizabeth Furnace last week, we made a brief stop at the Virginia fish hatchery in Waterlick. It turned out the ponds were empty because the fish-raising is done for the season.
The sign out front says "Fish Cultural Station" although the historical marker on Strasburg Road says State Fish Hatchery. I surmised that the fish receive culture so that they will thrive in schools!
The Boyles family has now returned to Washington state but I still have another group of photos to post from their visit. Meanwhile it seems too quiet here! They really know how to have fun as a family.
Sharing with Random Moments of Delight
We have a small business like this close to our mountain cottage, and it's always interesting to observe. I invite you to share your post at my new photo meme that I have started just now on my blog. Link is down below. Thanks!

Great shots from the Fish Cultural Station. Is this like a fish hatchery? Have a happy Monday and a great new week ahead!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a hatchery.
DeletePerhaps they have a fish theatre as well.
ReplyDeleteShame the ponds were empty ... can you re-visit at another time in season?
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
All the best Jan
Yes. Actually I was there years ago to see the fish.
DeleteI've never seen facilities like this here.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing worse than an uncultured fish. haha! ;) Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a fish place like this.. but near us they have a place where we can go feed carp. Those things are huge.
ReplyDeleteI love the vision of fish at school at their little desks all cultured... lol. What fun you have! Thank you so much for joining in on RMoD this week. You are great!
