Shenandoah - Warren County Line

Along Strasburg Road near the Shenandoah River stands a historical marker. One side of the sign introduces Warren County and the other side introduces Shenandoah County.


Shenandoah County
Area 510 Square Miles
Formed in 1836 from Frederick and Shenandoah, and named for General Joseph Warren, killed at Bunker Hill, 1775.


Warren County
Area 216 Square Miles
Formed in 1772 from Frederick, and first named Dunmore for Lord Dunmore, Governor of Virginia, 1771-1775. In 1778 the county was renamed for the Shenandoah River.

A few yards away there's a driveway and a pretty stone wall. The tidy field beyond is typical of what we see in the Shenandoah Valley.
