In Shenandoah National Park, Virginia
Flowers are soft, flexible and ephemeral.
The rock is hard, unyielding, and just about eternal.
But eventually plants, even delicate ones, can wear down rock
by taking root in crevices and growing with roots gently pressing the rock,
until over the eons, it gives up and becomes soil.
