Bluffton

When we visited Hilton Head, we did not stay on the island. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Bluffton 12 miles from the causeway. The picture below was taken at a boat landing not far from the Bluffton side of the causeway.

Bluffton is a large community encompassing an old section plus a sprawling area of new development. Frank wanted to see Sun City Hilton Head, an over-55 community next to the hotel and had made reservations to tour it, getting a substantial rebate on the hotel in exchange.

Sun City is built by the Pulte Homes/Del Webb organization. Frank was favorably impressed, the amenities being varied and extensive, even including a large woodworking shop for use by residents. Personally I didn't care for the cookie-cutter homes all crowded together, each one having a garage nose. And the heat was oppressive, although it didn't seem to bother the locals, who were out playing tennis and golf in large numbers.
