In Virginia, you can see split-rail "snake" fences at historical sites, especially Civil War battlefields,. Settlers built this style of fence when wood was plentiful. By stacking rails in a zig-zag pattern, the fence could be constructed without nails or wire.The View from Squirrel Ridge features thousands of views of the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding area.
