He hates being bathed. He doesn't like the electric grooming shears either. The photo shows him in the car a week ago. I was so pleased because he was able to ride peacefully without his crate. He used to be terrified of riding without the security of the plastic-walled crate so I thought he was making progress. He's been a very slow learner!
So, Benny's a slow learner AND he has the ADHD profile of an easily overstimulated, nervous dog? Poor little guy! Poor Linda, Frank & Guppy, too! (My perception of when Benny snapped at me a few months ago was that he was loving the petting/massage I was giving him, until he suddenly got overstimulated--he's got a bit of a hair trigger.)
ReplyDeleteHave you considered medication? No, really -- Lila, the Chesapeake-Bay-Retriever-from-Hell, probably wouldn't have made it through her 2nd and 3rd years without Amitriptylene. It doesn't make her drowsy or dopey at all -- it just takes the top edge off her nervousness and aggressive behavior. In humans, it's primarily classed as an anti-depressant, but I understand that it also used for teenagers who are troubled and violent. It seems to be quite safe for long term use, too. It's not expensive either, especially compared to Prozac-type drugs or to the Metacam, a NSAID that Lila gets for her hip displasia and arthritis.
