Grand Canyon

Marie just returned from the Grand Canyon and she's been writing about her rafting trip on her blog. She mentioned our trip there almost 20 years ago. So I found these pictures of her on that 1989 journey.

The right-hand photo won a small prize in the AOL Travel Photo Contest some years ago. The picture below shows Marie at a stable where we took a trail ride. I remember how the horse smell clung to our clothes so much we had to wash them even though we were only there a couple of days.

Here's a photograph from 1958. It shows my dad and my younger sister at Mary's Rock, Shenandoah National Park.

Everyone's sleepin' but the dog...

Allison spent the day with us Thursday and part of Friday. She needed a break from her busy job at a college. Looks like she adopted Frank's favorite method of taking a break.

It's Mothers Day

I've published several photos of my mother in the past. Here's a photo from a family gathering about five years ago.

It's Somebody's Birthday

Happy Birthday to Marie!

These pictures are from the early 70's. Other than the birthday girl, we see me (was my hair really that long?) and puppy Spotsy.

We were living in a townhouse in Alexandria at the time.

Tourism on the Icy Frontier

My daughter Marie has an interesting article on travel to Antarctica on Perceptive Travel Web Magazine. It's perceptive indeed, and her photos are worth seeing. You can see more of her exciting Antarctica photos on her Mac homepage album.

Holiday Leftovers

Since I carelessly let me camera's batteries run out of power right after Christmas, I wound up using a disposable camera for a few final shots. I picked up the prints today, along with a CD of scans.

So here are those pictures leftover from the day after Christmas: one of me and Frank, and below a picture of Allison, Dave, Frank and Marie.

Happy Birthday to Frank

Frank's birthday falls even closer to Christmas than mine! He was born in Oakmont, Pennsylvania on December 18, 1944.

Yesterday, Northern Virginia

Yesterday Lynn and I drove several hours to Northern Virginia to have lunch with Marie, Peggy, Elias and Michelle. Marie came down on the bus for the afternoon and then went back to Jersey City. Elias and Michelle were visiting for Thanksgiving but had to drive back to Pittsburgh after lunch. Peggy lives in Loudoun County so she didn't have far to travel.

Peggy had made reservations at the Sweet Water Tavern and had mentioned that several of us had food allergies. The restaurant not only provided a gluten-free menu but also assigned us a waitress with knowledge of food allergies. So we had a delicious meal while enjoying our visit.

Post Number 1000

Happy Birthday to Lynn

baby
For my thousandth blog post, it is a fortunate coincidence that today is the birthday of my oldest daughter. I still think she was one of the prettiest babies ever!

On the right you can see how she looked as a teenager - still pretty, as always.

Lynn grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and eventually moved out to the Shenandoah Valley. We took her to lunch yesterday to celebrate both her birthday and Thanksgiving.

See Marie at Work

A third of the way through this WNBC news video, you can see my daughter Marie at work on a superhero comic, The 99.

Be patient, though, it takes a while to load.
