Weed or Herb?

Plantain is a weed that pops up all over our yard, even in our gravel driveway. I was surprised to see some for sale at a local herb festival. Also called plantago, it has healing properties and a poultice made from the leaves is soothing for insect stings.

  3. A plant is a weed if it's growing where you don't want it to grow. Otherwise it's a wildflower. Kind of like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Have a great weekend. Tom The Backroads Traveller

  4. Interesting. I've only heard of plantains as in bananas (that need to be cooked before eating)

  5. Interesting. I always think of plantain in the banana sense! Didn't know there was another kind.
